Home Décor and Crafts

My interests in painting, sculpture, and instillation art have only deepened as I have found myself venturing into the world of crafts. Using various forms of media such as clay, wool, found objects, or old windows, I allow my creativity the space to make new objects and meaningful trinkets. The tactile experience of molding clay or felt, the visual experience of seeing light play off of a varnished surface, and the cathartic experience of knowing that one's own creation can be a meaningful treasure in another person's home are all reasons as to why I love creating home décor and pet-inspired crafts.
My ventures into needle felting and polymer clay sculpting came about because I believed that I could make finished pieces quicker and more efficiently. Often given as Christmas and birthday presents, I believed these sculptures and décor items

could be completed quicker than it would be for a work of art such as a polished oil painting or an ornate clay piece. This is rarely the case, as these craft pieces are often even more time consuming. However, in the creation of these objects, I enjoy a greater sense of freedom, a more accessible sense of play. I become less concerned about perfectionism and acute realism, focusing more heavily on meaning and the personalities conveyed by the creations themselves. Creating home décor and crafts is a means by which I feel free. Whenever I need art to offer a sense a joy, I turn to making these creations...
...and I've found that they offer others a sense of joy too.
