LIS 691 | Sexual Abuse Recovery Canon Website

In order to represent and display my research for the Action Research Project and my Independent Study, I knew I needed to develop an aesthetically pleasing website. The website, through the site construction platform Wix, explains the project (and how I extended it in the Fall Semester of 2016) as well as includes the works of literature that survey participants recommended. I recorded information about the books as well, offering a synopsis, author information, and, in some cases, recommended age level and information about the degree of explicitness in the content. Utilizing spreadsheets, artwork, and website design, I used technology to make a collage of my research.

LIS 620 | The Brontë Sisters and Their Art LibGuide

This LibGuide serves as a repository for resources for a large variety of research perspectives in Brontë studies. The LibGuide offers biographical information about the sisters and sends site viewers out to library resources examining the Brontë sisters’ lives and works in nuanced academic approaches. Libraries are implementing LibGuides more and more in their reference services and instruction, so gaining experience with this platform was a means to explore this major new trend in library technology. It also allowed me to expand my own love for the Brontë sisters and practice creating a LibGuide that could possibly be used in an English or Women’s and Gender Studies course at the university level.

LIS 688 | Semester Reflections: The use of EAD

During Week 8 of my Archival Management Class, we read articles about technology conducive to discovery tools in the archives sphere. We read about coding procedures, EAD, and different software platforms that archivists use in their repositories. My reflection discusses the benefits of these various forms of technologies in the archival world, positing the concepts in the articles in conversation with prior readings about processing and description.

LIS 635 | Feminist Theology Flipped Instruction

For this assignment, I created a library instruction course presented via a website. This flipped instruction website incorporates various means of technology to instruct learners about feminist/goddess theology AND library technology. Through learning about feminist technology in a variety of resource media accessible on the website, learners engage in the flipped instruction model to experiment and explore content in their own preferred learning modality. The instruction involves an activity in which I use an audio and animation software (possibly available in a library setting) to prompt learners to apply their knowledge of feminist theology. Ultimately, it’s a merger of creativity, teaching, theology, and technology.

LIS 635 | Tutorial for Feminist Theology

The tutorial instructs viewers on how to utilize the website I created for the Goddess Theology Course, how to follow through the lesson via the order in which I recommended, and also how to navigate the site to best comprehend the content (such as readings, videos, galleries of historical artwork, etc.) The video gave me experience with video editing software, screen casting software, audio editing, and even animation tools.

LIS 635 | Pearl Trees Curation and Pearl Trees Tutorial

Curating digital content with this free online platform supplied me with a simple, extremely usable tool that organizes resources via URL links. The site is aesthetically pleasing and offers ways to sort through resources (rather than a simple list of links). It is a great tool to use for research and I would definitely suggest that students utilize this technology if I were an academic librarian.

I had never made an infographic before entering the LIS program, so I am grateful that this assignment brought me to depict quantitative data in a visual form. I do not always learn from numerical figures and large arrays of charts, so experimenting with technology that represents data in a visual, aesthetic manner could help me and other learners with the same learning preferences.

After visiting Semans Library, the academic library for the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, I made a video presentation relaying my experience of touring the repository and interviewing the Library Director. The assignment required me to utilize my video editing skills and audio recording knowledge.

SES 662| Read&Write Video Tutorial

This tutorial explores the assistive technology tool Read&Write and how it supports Universal Design for Learning. In the video, I assess, evaluate, and teach users how to implement this tool in a hypothetical college classroom. Through utilizing Read&Write features, students with vision impairments, dyslexia, chronic headaches, or those who have issue expressing themselves through written/typed word can access curricula. The tool even has the potential to help all learners.
